Euphoria season 2 episode ‘Stand still as a Hummingbird’ made it to headlines after the commendable performance of Zendaya who plays Rue on the show. In one word it’s a representation of the excruciating pain of addiction and everyone connected to the addict.
The Emmy-winning star said in a conversation with EW, on an intense scene with her mother Leslie and sister Gia and her drug stash “it was a very tough day. I mean, I beat myself up. I still have some scars on my legs, and got quite a few bruises.”
The show written and directed by Sam Levinson always had the vision to have a Rue-run episode, Storm Reid also touched the same topic saying, “I think since season one, we knew that Sam had a vision of having an episode like that, where it would just be all on the line, and we would just be going at it, trying to just tell her that she needs help, but it was challenging to film.”
Zendaya agreed with her co-star/ sister on the show admitting that it’s always been a really intense episode. The general idea was always the same, which was this idea of, we cut right into intervention and it’s Rue just ripping her life apart and setting her life on fire and kind of tearing everything to the ground to basically come to hopefully what feels like rock bottom for her.”
The entire episode sheds light on Rue’s running around the town, escaping cars and cops this whole scenario Was an act of intervention for Rue.
The actress said having to film this after coming from Venice Film Festival 2021, was hectic both physically and emotionally, It was so intense and scary to tackle, and obviously, something that would be incredibly emotionally taxing, but also physically taxing Also, I care about Rue and I hate when she’s in pain. And I think this whole episode, there’s so much pain and it’s bubbling to the surface, and it’s also crossed with her withdrawing, which is extremely physically painful.”
