Wolfe Releasing has recently acquired all North American rights for the director Magnus Gertten’s feature documentary called “Nelly & Nadine” prior to its North American premiere at the event of “Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival” organized on April 30. Wolfe Releasing has put the documentary for a theatrical and streaming release in the late months of 2022.
Produced by “Ove Rishøj Jensen” from Auto Images, “Nelly & Nadine” had to have its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, where it had won the “Teddy Jury Award”, the highest honor for an LGBTQ+ film ever.
“Nelly & Nadine” is the tale of two women who have fallen in love on the Christmas Eve of 1944 in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Despite being separated during the last months of the war, Nelly and Nadine manage to reunite and then spend the rest of their lives together happily. For many years their love story is kept a secret, even to some of their closest family. Now Nelly’s granddaughter, “Sylvie”, has decided to open up their unseen personal archives and uncover their remarkable story to the world.
“It feels pretty cool working with “Wolfe Releasing” for the distribution of ‘Nelly & Nadine’ in North America,” said the director Magnus Gertten. “As a director, it was very important to feel secure about if your film is handled by a competent and dedicated team of distributors as the “Wolfe” team or not. I’m glad that more people will now be able to experience and live through Nelly and Nadine’s remarkable story.”
