Fantastic Beasts 3: The Secrets of Dumbledore is the third installment in the Fantastic Beasts film universe and the eleventh in the Wizarding World franchise. The plot is set several years after the affairs of its predecessor. It shines a light on Albus Dumbledore, tasking Newt Scamander and his supporters with an assignment that takes them into the core of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald’s army.
The film made its debut on 29 March 2022 in London, 8 April 2022 in the United Kingdom, and is scheduled to hit the big screens on 15 April 2022 in the United States. It is based on a screenplay penned by J. K. Rowling. The fantasy film is directed under the supervision of David Yates and scripted by J. K. Rowling and Steve Kloves.
The film can only capture a $3.4M global IMAX box office for the third weekend, pushing its total to $18.7M. North America contributed $1.6M of IMAX box office total, bringing the Domestic IMAX sum to $6.7M, with international IMAX numbers coming in at $1.8M and pushing the total internationally to $12M.
There are multiple reasons behind this massive loss of Audience. While the foremost could have been Rowling herself, the actual reason falls on the departure of Johnny Depp from the franchise. His release, along with the role of Ezra Miller, the actor who has been recently arrested in Hawaii, serves as the focal point of the boycott.
This sudden shift in numbers indicates a change in what audiences are willing to shell out money for and whether it was the controversy surrounding the movie or other factors playing in.
