A piece of sad news is coming from Virginia, A Virginia police officer who was doing his work was asked to perform a welfare check at a deserted home around 4. A.M this Saturday by a suspect who was inside and due to the shot the officer died that evening.
According to the Virginia State Police, Big Stone Gap Officer Michael Chandler turned 29 on Saturday. And he was found unconscious in a ditch along the driveway. He was taken to the Norton Community Hospital and then he was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center. In the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries around 7. P.M
The suspect is not yet identified publically but was taken to custody by a joint task force of the Kingsport Tennessee Police Department’s patrol division, SWAT team, and criminal investigation division.
A $20,000 reward had given to the information giver. $10,000 from Ballad Health CEO Alan Levine and $10,000from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Big Stone Gap Police Officer Michael Chandler said in a statement that “Mike’s loss will be felt by our town and across all of Wise County.
Charges are expected “in the coming days” this was said by the Wise County Commonwealth’s Attorney Chuck Slemp.
