The 77-year old South Korean actor created history after being awarded a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Oh Il-Nam aka player 001 in the Netflix hit Drama Squid Game.
O Yeong-Su beats out the likes of Billy Crudup from The Morning Show, Kieran Culkin from Succession, Mark Duplass from The Morning Show, and Brett Goldstein from Ted Lasso.
The show’s lead actor Lee Jung-Jae was also nominated for Best Actor in Television Drama Series but he lost to Succession’s Jeremy Strong. the show itself was nominated for Best Television Drama Series.
The actor’s victory was declared in a private ceremony in Los Angeles on Monday. As this year’s live broadcast was canceled. Yeong-Su started his career as a stage artist, featuring 200 theatre production from 1967 before beginning his career in television and films.
The 77-year-old expressed his feelings about his win to MBC saying “I feel like I’m floating on air, it makes me think, I need to calm down, organize my thoughts, and hold myself back right now,” “so many people have been contacting me, and because I don’t have a manager to help me, it’s hard for me to handle the volume of calls and messages I’ve been receiving. So my daughter has been helping me.”
Later the actor shares his thought on fame and how his life has changed since the release of the globally hit Drama series “Things have changed quite a bit. Even when I go out to a cafe or somewhere like that, I now have to be aware of how I appear to others. It’s made me think, being famous is tough too.”
Squid has reached a milestone of Netflix’s most-watched series across the world in 94 countries. There are so many other milestones about to be set by the show.
