Xavier Becerra is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 25th United States secretary of health and human services since March 2021.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. The agency confirmed that he had been infected for the second time in less than a month.

Becerra once tested positive for COVID-19 on May 18 while traveling in Berlin earlier for the Group of Seven meetings for health ministers.

Biden has ignored having a known case of the virus, but the White House has declared he may also be infected. The administration complains that methods such as vaccines, booster shots, and treatments now exist that make the virus much more manageable.

HHS spokeswoman Sarah Lovenheim said in a statement. This morning in Sacramento, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra tested positive for COVID-19 after taking an antigen test. He is fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms. He will continue to perform his duties as HHS Secretary, working in isolation.

Becerra is not the only one who tested positive following the summit. On Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau disclosed he also tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time this year.

Reinfection is shortly becoming the primary driver of recent cases in the United States, showing that immunity from previous infections can no longer provide the same level of safety against happening variants and invariants.
