The documentary series was said to have premiered first in the September of 2021 and will finally conclude in April 2022 with the release of its remaining episodes.
The first three episodes of The Way Down God, Greed, and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin were said to have been released on September 30, 2021, and gave viewers an inside and a wider look at the weight loss cult.
After the series was released, it took no time to become the most-watched streamer’s documentary series after Deadline reports release.
Even only three out of the five episodes had been released, leaving many wondering to conclude the chilling tale and the characters’ plot.
The fans would finally be able to watch the rest of the docuseries on April 28, 2022.
“The Way Down” is currently streaming exclusively at HBO Max.
During her college years, Shamblin struggled with her weight and figure, leading her to create a new diet consulting practice.
Essentially, the Weigh Down Workshop seemed to have encouraged the people to shoo the pounds away, and if they turned to God, he is said to “keep you virtuous and protect you from overeating,” according to an article published in 2004 by The New York Times.
The Weigh Down Workshop ultimately gave wings to Shamblin’s career and popularity.
However, as the program’s popularity grew, people objected to their philosophy that fat is the manifestation of sin, as The Guardian notes.
