Netflix’s latest installment of its superheroes drama sequence, Raising Dion, entered the OTT platform on February 1, 2022. This superhero television series revolves around the life of Nicole Warren, a widowed mother raising her son alone while struggling to oversee his supernatural abilities after the death of her husband, Mark Warren.
The plot thickens when her son, Dion Warren, a 10-year-old boy, starts to embody miscellaneous supernatural, superhero-like abilities. The series came on Netflix on October 4, 2019, and ran nine episodes long, while the latest addition is eight episodes long. This season, we saw Dion gathering a team of heroes against the Crooked Energy that pursued to annihilate him, and we enjoyed watching them emerging triumphantly. The show disclosed the nature of the strange energy by claiming it as extraterrestrial energy with vicious sentience of its own, capable of feeding on the psychic remnant of pain and agony.
In these following eight episodes, we witnessed the energy sources returning to its previous host, Pat Rollins, an engineer working at a biotech company called BIONA, Mark’s best friend and Dion’s godfather. Throughout the season, he struggles to accept his true nature, i.e., his insensitive lust for power and his victim complex, and towards the end, he can’t fight his instincts and succumbs to his dark desires.
The Post credit scenes of season 2 strongly hint at the success of the experiment of Pat injecting himself with an experimental serum to modify his genes which ends up granting him more powers than ever before. The finale ends with Pat returning to Atlanta at the head of an army at some point in the future.
In season 2, we saw many actors returning to their roles, with Michael Anthony and Tracey Bonner joining for the parts of Gary Stafford and Simone Carr for the second season.
Unfortunately for fans, Netflix has decided to cancel this fantasy thriller on April 26, 2022. As per Sammi Haney’s Instagram post, Raising Dion is CANCELED. The reason behind this decision is analyzed to be the decline in viewership. Despite the success of season 1, season 2 took a lot of time to appear on the screen, leading to the shift of fans from this Franchise.
