A well-known American television and film actress, Mary Mara, took her final breath On June 26, 2022. The actress passed away at 61 due to an unfortunate swimming accident. According to New York State Police, she drowned in the St. Lawrence River Sunday.
Her body was taken to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Cape Vincent Fire and Ambulance Troopers found her in the river around 8:10 a.m. at 33753 Old Farm Road in the Town of Cape Vincent.
The actress worked in the industry for over three decades. She made her debut in 1989 in an American television film, The Preppie Murder, directed by John Herzfeld and written by Herzfeld and Irv Roud. She starred as Susan Bird. Her most recent project was 2014’s American daytime television soap opera, General Hospital.
The actress’s most prominent roles included her work in Dexter and Criminal Minds, Bones, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She had also appeared in Mr. Saturday Night.
Mara was a Syracuse native and grew up in Cape Vincent. She completed her high school at Corcoran High School and studied further at San Francisco State University and Yale.
Her manager Craig Dorfman expressed her emotions and wrote, “Mary was one of the finest actresses I ever met. I still remember seeing her onstage in 1992 in ‘Mad Forest’ off Broadway. She was electric, funny and a true individual. Everyone loved her. She will be missed.”
