The world is changing, our preferences are evolving. Viewers are no longer interested in watching films filled with stereotypical characters who end up hurting the image and feelings of the LGBTQ community.

Hollywood has taken quite a lot of steps to ensure that their films help in promoting the community. In the past few years, we have seen multiple LGBTQ characters that became one of our favorites.

Another step has been taken by DC to diversify its superheroes by officially announcing the addition of a transgender character in its upcoming movie, Batgirl produced by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

Batgirl is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl. The movie is scheduled to hit the screens sometime in 2022. It is intended to be an installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The movie’s plotline hasn’t been disclosed yet but it is estimated to be wrapped around the main character, Barbara who is Gotham City police commissioner Jim Gordon’s (Simmons) daughter.

According to recent reports, DC is ready to introduce its first transgender character in this movie. This news character is a bartender named Alysia Yeoh who is also Barbara’s best friend.

Alysia Yeoh is played by a Filipina-American actor, Ivory Aquino. The actress is known for her role as a transgender activist Cecilia Chung in the 2017 miniseries When We Rise. She has also been seen in series including Blue Bloods, FBI: Most Wanted, New Amsterdam, and High Maintenance, as well as Isabel Sandoval’s Lingua Franca and other films. Yeoh publicly announced herself as a member of the LGBTQ community in January 2017 during a press conference.

Aquino is also known for being outspoken as her fans have seen her speaking in support of trans children and transgender rights, criticizing the Donald Trump administration’s overturn of federal protections for transgender students.

The actress is represented by A3 Artists Agency, Industry Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Aquino will be seen on-screen alongside the previously confirmed star cast which includes Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton, and Jacob Scipio.

The villain in the movie, Firefly will be played by Fraser while Michael will don the Batman suit. Any other characters Haven’t been specified yet. Since the dates of release haven’t been disclosed yet, fans are still eagerly waiting for any kind of information.
