It was a huge showcasing in this most curious of not-E3 weeks; Microsoft showed up with an old-fashioned E3-style exhibition, loaded with gameplay videos for titles throughout the following 12 months. Most are due out on day one on Game Pass.
Highlights comprised our first look at Starfield gameplay, the strange Cocoon, the weird High On Life, and Obsidian’s recent narrative adventure, Pentiment. Oh, and there was the tiny matter of Hideo Kojima creating an Xbox exclusive.
Here are a few things announced in Microsoft and Bethesda’s Games Showcase.
The show started with a generous look at a recently-delayed first-party game named Arkane’s Redfall. The gameplay clip exhibited plenty of first-person shooting at terrible vampires, and it’s yet to come out in 2023 on PC and Xbox and, of course, day one on Game Pass.
There also was a console launch exclusive, namely the Squanch Games’ High On Life. It’s a first-person shooter from the co-creator of Solar Opposites and Rick and Morty in which all the firearms talk. High On Life, which is yet to be launched in October 2022, is a day one Game Pass title, and it seems pretty amazing.
The show finished with an extended peek at Bethesda’s Starfield, an “Xbox console exclusive” initiated by Todd Howard.
