CJ ENM shared some major announcements about the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards. On November 16 at 10 a.m. KST a global press conference for the 2021 MAMA.
This year’s MAMA will be held offline with an in-person audience centering around the concept “Make Some Noise.” Mnet’s chief producer Park Chain Wook explained that we won’t be able to invite as many people to the audience, but it’s a big chance that the audience and artists are meeting. And we will follow the government’s disease prevention guidelines.
This year the evaluation criteria and categories will also be different. Unlike previous years, fan votes will not be the criteria for determining the Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. However, Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10 and Worldwide Icon of the Year awards will be determined entirely through fan votes.
This year’s evaluation criteria will include music data from Gaon Chart, YouTube, Twitter along with streaming data from a music streaming platform that is served in 167 countries and Apple Music. And all the data will be calculated by a third-party company “Samil PwC” for greater transparency and fairness.
2021 MAMA will be hosted by the first-ever female host “Lee Hyori.” British singer Ed Sheeran will be performing at the event, he is preparing a MAMA version performance for this. And more information about the performances will be announced at a later date. The 2021 MAMA will be live-streamed on 11 December at 6 p.m. KST.
