Oppenheimer is an upcoming American biographical film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The plot is based on American Prometheus, a biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
The movie features Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist among those credited with being the “father of the atomic bomb” for his role in the Manhattan Project—the World War II undertaking that developed the first nuclear weapons.
To embody the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Murphy did what he summarized as “an awful lot of reading” on Oppenheimer’s life. In the second week of April, filming took place at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey.
Like his previous role as Thomas Shelby, fans have been expecting an excellent performance as a theoretical physicist who specialized as the wartime head of the Los Alamos Laboratory. During his momentum on the Manhattan Project, Oppenheimer assisted in developing and testing the first nuclear weapons – the same weapons later utilized in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
After the world war, he also came to be the chairman of the General Advisory Committee of the newly established United States Atomic Energy Commission. While in this standpoint, he lobbied for international supervision of nuclear power and contradicted the hydrogen bomb’s development.
Along with Cillian, the film features big names in the industry, including Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and Dane DeHaan. Actors Gary Oldman, Florence Pugh, and Rami Malek are also set to appear in the biographical film.
