A new action-thriller is heading towards Netflix in the United States and the United Kingdom as the streaming platform gained its rights. The project stars Josh Duhamel and Abbie Cornish. It is directed under the supervision of Sam Macaroni, who is best known for his 2020’s Lionsgate Home Entertainment movie Guest House. His credits also include assisting the production of John Wick and Ghosts of War.
The movie’s official synopsis reads, “Blackout will follow Cain (Duhamel), who wakes up in a Mexican hospital with no memory. After meeting Anna (Cornish), he discovers who he is but soon finds himself fighting for his life as several warring cartel factions attack him, looking for something he has stolen.”
The plot is adapted from a screenplay by Van B. Nguyen. The film is coming from X.Y.Z. Films, which Netflix has licensed and worked with extensively and continues today. Their previous works include The Old Ways, The Paper Tigers, and The Devil Below in multiple regions.
The film was put for sale by X.Y.Z. Films back in October 2020, and its filming concluded in January 2021. Along with this project, Netflix has also exclusively released titles under its Netflix Original umbrella-like Apostle, The Most Assassinated Woman in The World, and Stowaway.
The leading cast of the movie includes Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Jupiter’s Legacy) as Cain. Abbie Cornish (Jack Ryan, Sucker Punch, Limitless, and Geostorm) as Anna, Nick Nolte (Warrior), Lou Ferringo Jr. (S.W.A.T.), Omar Chaparro (No Manches Frida), and Pedro Lopez (Ozark).
No release date has been disclosed yet. Although, according to Netflix’s Queue via the movie’s direct page, it is expected to hit during summer. It has a runtime of 1 hour and 20 minutes and has a budget estimated to be around $12 million. For further updates, stay tuned.
