The week is said to have brought a second season of the anticipated “Russian Doll,” but in a sense, the true TV version of the series nesting doll is said to be “Better Call Saul,” putting one more layer each year as it has now approached the outer shell that was called “Breaking Bad.” The commencement of the final season brings the series steps closer to the show’s endgame, with the tantalizing clues but the scant clarity about these final pieces.

While weaving together through the disparate storylines, “Saul” had proceeded along the parallel tracks that seem to have gradually begun to move towards intersecting before the characters of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman had even entered the picture. The news that the actors will repeat their roles before the seasons complete seems to have only heightened the anticipation that the show will offer them a sense of closure that wasn’t evident when Jimmy McGill’s long, strange trip to becoming the Saul Goodman began.

“Better Call Saul” began as what is said to have been felt like a lark, a way to extend the life of the “Breaking Bad” for a network, Albuquerque tourism, and the most committed fans who weren’t said to have been quite ready to let it go. As the show nears its end, the series creators “Vince Gilligan” and “Peter Gould” seem to have established the show’s credentials not only as being called a worthy sequel but also as a great series in its own right.

“Better Call Saul” is said to have begun its sixth and final season on the 18th of April at 9 p.m. on AMC.
