The supermodel spoke about her history of settling for abusive relationships and people-pleasing habits on Victoria’s secret’s “VS Voices” podcast.

The model admitted, “I constantly went back to men- and also women- that had abused me and that’s where the people-pleasing came in.”

Bella is voted the ‘Model of the Year’ in 2016. She has always been on the list of highest-paid models. She is a sister to the famous supermodel Gigi Hadid.

The 25-year-old spoke in the podcast with brutal honesty touching very personal areas of her life. She began, “I started not having boundaries, not only sexually, physically, emotionally, but then it went into my workspace. I began to be a people-pleaser with my job.”

She continued, “I always felt like my voice was never heard growing up. I grew up around men – whether that was in relationships or family or whatever that was – where I was constantly told that my voice was less important than their voice.”

The fashion icon shared her struggles with relationships as she was growing stating, “then moving into relationships growing up, and not having the boundaries of being able to stick up for myself and have my voice be heard, affected me in my adult relationships very intensely. My nervous system would crash. It was fight or flight.”

Bella shared that taking breaks from social media has proven to be a ‘powerful healing tool’ for her. She stated, “It sounds very cliché, but do not have the energy of everyone else and their projections being projected back onto you is one of the most powerful things of all time. It’s cliché for a reason because it’s a fact that it works.”

She also opened up about her drinking habits and her decision to stop, after her doctor showed her scans of brain damage due to alcohol. She has been sober for six months. Saying that it was harder for her to pick up glass after being shown the damage it was causing to her body. She has certainly gained control over the alcohol, now she doesn’t feel the need to drink anymore.
