Alice in Borderland is a Japanese science fiction thriller drama based on the original graphic novel “Alice in Borderland” written by Haro Aso and published by Shogakukan Inc. The show is directed by Shinsuke Sato and scripted by Yoshiki Watabe, Yasuko. Kuramitsu and Shinsuke Sato.

The leading cast of the show includes, Kento Yamazaki, Tao Tsuchiya, Yūki Morinaga, Keita Machida, Ayame Misaki, Yutaro Watanabe, Sho Aoyagi, Nijirō Murakami, Dori Sakurada, Aya Asahina, Shuntarō Yanagi and Nobuaki Kaneko.

The story circles around the lives of three High School kids, Ryōhei Arisu, Daikichi Karube, and Chōta Segawa. They get transported into a seemingly post-apocalyptic-like parallel world after Arisu wishes that he could live in a different world. Soon the three are introduced to a woman who greets them and tells them that they have ‘entered their game.’ After introducing them to the world, she revealed that they must participate in various games in Borderland to stay alive.

The show made its appearance on Netflix on December 10, 2020, and the first season consisted of eight episodes with an average screen time of 41–52 minutes. The first season stands with an average rating of 7/10 by Rotten Tomatoes. The show became quite popular, and within a month after the first season, Variety revealed that the series had been viewed in 18 million households.

Since the first season was a big hit, fans have been eagerly waiting for the arrival of its second season. Netflix has already disclosed the confirmation of another season, but so far, we have no clue about the actual release date. According to numerous sources, the second season will hit the screens sometime in December 2022, which means two years after seeing the first one on Netflix.

This expected release date came through a video in which Kento Yamazaki, who played the role of Ryōhei Arisu, revealed, “What is the purpose of this game? Will they be able to return to the real world? What is the answer that Arisu is seeking? We hope to continue to work hard while shooting the series so that you can enjoy this show until the very end.”

Netflix’s YouTube channel also confirmed the news when it posted a teaser trailer, which simply read, ‘Season 2 is coming.’

As most of the supporting characters didn’t make it till the end of the episode, we can expect to see them through multiple flashbacks. Hopefully, we will see the first look of this much-anticipated franchise soon.
