CIMON- Crew Interactive Mobile Companion is the first autonomous floating robot that completed its first mission in November. The report suggests it worked well in the International Space Station. However, the robot is something more than Alexa. Scientists are now working on an upgraded version of CIMON. The new robot, CIMON-2, will soon show showcase different ways how it can help astronauts working in the ISS.

About CIMON

It is a product designed and developed under a collaboration project. The companies involved in this project are Airbus, IBM, and DLR. They developed this robot which can do different tasks which can help the scientists. The goal of the first mission was to understand if the robot can work with scientists or not, and it outperformed.

The New CIMON -2

The scientists are now gearing up to launch the new CIMON-2. This new robot will come with more abilities and features. It houses better software as well as hardware. The parts are designed based on the result of the first mission.

Along with AI, the robot now can understand the emotion using its emotional intelligence ability. It is a technology from IBM. It can understand sentiment while communicating.

This is something that will come in the future. But for now, it will focus on helping scientists on regular tasks.

Experts Words

In space, time is very expensive and limited too. So, by managing time, more things can be achieved. CIMON will also support different scientific experiments. Instead of remembering all the tasks, one can ask CIMON what the next steps to do or whet this particular material is important are.

This time, CIMON will stay in space for a longer duration. May be around for three to four years. Let’s hope for the best. It can even go on a Moon mission or Mars. Anything is possible.
